Turquoise clear waters, pristine sandy beaches and authentic fishing villages, Menorca has it all! Menorca is the second largest island in the Balearic Islands, and with its verdant surroundings and authentic character, it knows how to effortlessly enchant you. But what is there to see and do in Menorca? Go beach-hopping for a day or explore the island by motorbike.
1. Ciutadella
Next to the capital Maó-Mahón, Ciutadella is Menorca's second largest town and a real favourite for us! Ciutadella is a romantic town to explore on foot. The town has charming medieval streets, squares, cute boutiques and delicious food. Start your exploration in Port de Ciutadella, a real landmark of the town, full of shops, terraces and extravagant old churches and palaces.
2. Cala Algaiarens
Crystal-clear water and fine-grained sand with even a beautiful reddish colour in some places. This bay consists of two beaches: Platja des Bot and Platja es Tancats.
The two beaches are located in a beautiful red-rocky bay, making it one of the best protected beaches on the north coast. The beaches have no other special facilities, but in high season there are toilets and are supervised by a lifeguard.
TIP: Bring a snorkelling set!
3. Binibeca
This super cute white village is a tourist destination that should definitely be on your list! Courtesy of its many white alleys and little houses, this pretty village is a maze in which you can quickly get lost, but which is actually not a punishment at all!
Its immaculate whiteness and well-preserved architecture will remind you of the fishing villages of yesteryear.
TIP: When you visit, you will find signs everywhere reminding you to keep the noise down and to enjoy this fantastic location quietly and silently, respecting the locals.
4. Playa de Cavallería & Cala Roja
Located in the north of Menorca, Cavallería beach is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. It has a length of more than 500 metres and a width that, despite being gradually reduced by erosion, remains more than enough to lay down the towel and enjoy the view.
Next to Playa de Cavallería you will find Cala Roja. The beach gets its name from the red sand on this side of the coast. What makes this place so popular are the mud baths here. On the cliff sides, you will find a red clay-like composition that tourists love to cover their skin with.
TIP: Bring old swim clothes if you are going to rub yourself with the red mud, as we have seen from experience that the mud barely comes out of your clothes.🥴
5. Platja Binigaus
If you really want to unwind, Binigaus beach is your place! This beautiful sandy beach with small cliffs is perfect for sunbathing, reading a book or taking a refreshing dip in the sea. The water is shallow and has a soft sandy bottom.
TIP: This beach is very popular with nudists, but is not an exclusively nude beach. Don't worry, as there is plenty of space to find a quiet spot.
6. Cape Cavalleria, lighthouse
In the north of the island you will find the Cape Cavalleria lighthouse, and is the perfect place if you want to get away from all the hustle and bustle. Furthermore, it has stunning views over the Mediterranean Sea.
TIP: Make sure you close the gate leading to the lighthouse on arrival and departure, as it serves for the stray goats!
7. Cala Turqueta
On the south coast of the island, you will probably find one of the most beautiful and popular beaches on Menorca, Cala Turqueta. The beach has fine white sand and clear blue waters. Furthermore, the beach is surrounded by pine trees, making it the perfect place to chill out in the shade.
